Joyce Arden Groh, daughter of Royce Wilbur (1912-1975) and Helen Elizabeth (Burlingame) (1909-2008) Groh, was born 17 March 1935, Lansing, Ingham County, Michigan. She graduated from Okemos High School in 1953 and went on to have a career as a state senatorial aide in Lansing.
Joyce married Gaylord Max Sheets who was a minister in the Cook County area of Chicago. The couple had 4 children before divorcing. "Max," who was born 31 July 1930, Chicago, was an adopted son of George and Mary Sheets. Max graduated from Sexton High School, Lansing, in 1948. He died 15 September 2005 in Franklin County, Ohio.
In the mid-1960's Joyce began a career as an aide in the Lansing State House of Representatives. She worked there for 8 years and then went on in employment at the State Senate House. In 1980 she was diagnosed with cancer. Her 4 children rallied around her as she valiantly fought a 5-year battle, succumbing 2 May 1985, Eaton County, Michigan.
Joyce was interred Evergreen Cemetery, Lansing, Ingham County, Michigan.
