John Thomas "Tom" Schubel - Class Of 1943

John Thomas "Tom" Schubel, son of Arthur A. (1890-1945) and Charlotte (Marshall) (1888-1943) Schubel, was born 4 October 1925 Lansing, Ingham County, Michigan.  He graduated in 1943 from Okemos High School.  Tom was considered an outstanding varsity basketball player for Okemos.

TOM SCHUBEL SCORES 24 POINTS AS OKEMOS WINS

Stockbridge, Jan. 16 - Okemos won its fifth straight Ingham County league victory here last night in defeating Stockbridge, 39 to 32.  Tom Schubel, high scoring Chief star, banged 24 points through the net.  He netted 11 field goals and two free-throws. 

Tom served in the US Army occupational force in Japan after World War II.  He married Patricia Joan Wheeler 27 January 1950 Farmington, Oakland County, Michigan.

Tom died 20 July 2005.  Patricia, born 14 August 1929 Toledo, Lucas County, Ohio, died 27 September 2008 Michigan.  Tom and Patricia were interred Evergreen Cemetery, Lansing, Ingham County.

SCHUBEL, JOHN T.

WILLIAMSTON, MI

Age 79, died July 20, 2005; born October 4, 1925 in Lansing, Michigan.  Mr. Schubel served in the U. S. Army (Army of Occupation) during WWII in Japan.  He was a John Deere Implement Dealer form 1950-1958 and retired from Cheney Concrete in 1986.  He enjoyed MSU basketball and football.  He was preceded n death by his sister, Betty.  Surviving are his loving wife of 55 years, Patricia; 2 daughters, Deborah (Frans) Wilbrink of Williamston and Susan (Jeff) Putman of Norwich, CT; 1 son, John (Janice) Schubel of Salem, CT; 7 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren; 1 sister, Geraldine Dewar of Grand Rapids.
