John Ernest "Ernie" Jennings - Class Of 1927

John Ernest "Ernie" Jennings, son of Frank Carl (1866-1928) and Ella (Newhouse) (1870-1960) Jennings, was born 23 May 1908 Ionia County, Michigan.  He graduated in 1926 from Okemos High School where he had participated in Track and Field events.  Ernie married Ida Mary Strayer 5 October 1929 Wood County, Ohio.  Ida Mary also graduated from Okemos in 1926.

Ernie was employed by Oldsmobile for over 40 years.  He and Ida Mary lived in Haslett for decades.  Ernie died 28 August 1975 Lansing, Ingham County, Michigan.  Ida Mary, born 9 September 1909 Lansing, died 3 February 1988 Lansing.  Ernie and Ida Mary were interred East Lawn Memory Gardens, Okemos, Ingham County.

Age 67, died at a local hospital August 28, 1975.  Born May 23, 1908 in Lyons, Michigan.  Mr. Jennings was a resident of Haslett for 43 years.  Retired from Oldsmobile main tool room in 1973 after 45 years of service.  He was a member of the Oldsmobile Quarter Century Club, and a charter member of the Oldsmobile Outdoor Club.  Surviving are the wife, Ida M. of Haslett; 2 daughters, Mrs. Larry (Yvonne M.) Rogers  of Okemos, Mrs. Friedrich A. (Linda M.) Buehler of East Lansing, 2 sisters, Mrs. Bessie Bower of Ionia and Mrs. Elsie Tubbs of Haslett; brother, Don S. Jennings of East Lansing; 8 grandchildren.  Funeral services will be held Saturday at 3 p.m. from the Gorsline-Runciman East Chapel, East Lansing with Rev. Charles F. Goudey, Pastor Emeritus Pilgrims Congregational Church officiating.  Interment in East Lawn Memory Gardens.
