Vera Mae Gubbins, daughter of William Elwyn (1861-1938) and Ada (Young) (1877-1965) Gubbins, was born 1 October 1906 Okemos, Ingham County, Michigan. She graduated from Okemos High School in 1924. Vera married Charles Frederick "Charlie" Deeg 13 October 1924 Okemos.

Okemos, Oct. 15 - Charles F. Deeg, so of Mr. and Mrs. Lewis (incorrect spelling) C. Deeg, and Miss Vera M. Gubbins, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William Gubbins, were quietly married at the Baptist parsonage Tuesday morning at 8 o'clock, Rev. F. D. Hague officiating. Kenneth Berkeley and Miss Frances Turan were their attendants.
Mr. and Mrs. Deeg have gone to Detroit, where they will be guests of Mr. and Mrs. Walter Schweikle. After their return they will reside at the Deeg farm, south of this village.
Mrs. Deeg was a member of the graduating class of 1924 of Okemos consolidated school. Both young people belong to the Baptist Booster class and are prominent in the work of the local Sunday school.
Charlie, son of Louis and Ida (Rhodes) Deeg, was born 25 May 1903. He was a farmer all his life. In 1940 the Deeg farm near Okemos was sold and Charlie bought land near Leslie.

Okemos, Feb. 19 - Mrs. Charles Deeg suffered a broken leg Wednesday when she slipped and fell on some ice. The Deegs recently sold their farm here and plan to move the end of this month to their new farm near Leslie.
Charlie died 4 February 1980 Leslie, Ingham County. Vera died 12 March 1997 Tucson, Pima County, Arizona. Charlie and Vera were interred East Lawn Memory Gardens, Okemos.

Born October 1, 1906 in Okemos; died March 12, 1997, at the age of 90. Mrs. Deeg was employed, right out of high school, at J. W. Knapps, Lansing, and was a cook with the Leslie School System for many years. She was a member of the Okemos Pioneer's Club and the Sunny Sanders Extension Club. Mrs. Deeg was preceded in death by her husband, Charlie (1980). Surviving are 1 daughter, Ruth (Kenneth) Christenot of Montana; 2 sons, Kenneth (Mable) of Arizona and Bruce (Dorothy) of Mason; 12 grandchildren, Cande (Alan) Recke, David Christenot, William (Patty) Deeg, Charles (Laurie) Deeg, Cathy (Glenn) VanderMolen, Jo Ellen (Martin) Welch, Lorraine (David) Dickerson, Janet (Bradley) Scott, Julie (Brian) Casper and Nancie (Alan) El-Shafel; 35 great-grandchildren, 6 great-great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held Thursday, March 20, 12 Noon at the Gorsline-Runciman Co. Ball-Dunn Chapel, 621 S. Jefferson St., Mason, with the Rev. Derek DeToni-Hill, of Leslie United Methodist Church, officiating. Interment will follow in East Lawn Memory Gardens, Okemos.
Vera's older sister, Eva, was born 8 December 1902, Ingham County. Eva attended the Okemos School until 11th grade when she transferred to and graduated from East Lansing High School in 1921. Eva also attended and graduated from Western State Normal College, Kalamazoo, Kalamazoo County, Michigan, obtaining her teaching degree. She began teaching at Bath School in 1927 and was critically injured in the Bath School disaster, being pinned under massive wreckage. Eva was one of the very few teachers who returned to teach at Bath during the 1927-1928 school year. The entire story of the 1927 Bath School explosion is re-told and re-exaimed by Sherrie Paty '66 (click to read). She married, in 1929, Earl O. Hoyt. Eva died 20 April 1993.
