Dorothy Mae Delamarter (Valedictorian) (Knopf) - Class Of 1945

Dorothy Mae Delamarter, daughter of Charles W. (1893-1975) and Eugenia (Vansyckel) (1903-1986) Delamarter, was born 5 July 1927 Lansing, Ingham County, Michigan.  Dorothy graduated as valedictorian of the Class of 1945, Okemos High School.

NEWLYWED S. H. KNOPFS NOW AT HOME

Now making their home at Marlette are the newlywed Mr. and Mrs. Stanley H. Knopf, who spoke their wedding vows recently in the Okemos Community church.

The bride, formerly Miss Dorothy Delamarter, is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. C. W. Delamarter of 5404 N. Okemos rd., East Lansing.  Her husband is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Roy Knopf of Mason.

For the ceremony the bride selected a floor-length gown of nylon organdy designed with a sabrina neckline.  She carried rubrum lilies and white carnations.

Mrs. Robert Leonard of Mason, matron of honor, donned a gown of aqua embroidered crystallette and carried rubrum lilies.

Miss Barbara Delamarter was her sister's bridesmaid.

Robert Leonard of Mason was best man and ushers were James Davis of South Haven, brother-in-law of the bridegroom, Don Burkett, Forrest Knapp of Monroe and Reed Romine of Ypsilanti, all cousins of the bridegroom.

Following a reception in the church, the newlyweds left on a northern Michigan honeymoon.

Both the bride and bridegroom are graduates of Michigan State University.

Dorothy graduated from Michigan State University and married widower Stanley Howard Knopf July 1959 Okemos.  Stanley's first wife, Carol Mae (Dubois) Knopf, succumbed to leukemia in 1958.  She gave birth to a daughter in her last moments of life.  The infant also died and both mother and daughter were interred Leek Cemetery, Okemos.  Dorothy became an instant mother to two very young motherless children. 

Stanley, a graduate of Michigan State University, was a school teacher in Sanilac County, Michigan.  In 1978 Dorothy and Stanley's biological daughter, Kathie, graduated from Marlette High School, Sanilac County.  She was a co-valedictorian of her class.

Dorothy died 27 May 2004 Marlette, Sanilac County.  She was interred Leek Cemetery, Okemos.

MARLETTE - Dorothy M. Knopf, 76, died Thursday, May 27, 2004.  Survived by husband, Stanley.  Services: 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Marlette First United Methodist Church.  Visitation: 1 to 9 p.m. Monday, Marsh Funeral Chapel, Marlette and 10 a.m. Tuesday at the church.
