Lois Dorthea Patenge (Kuntz) - Class Of 1951 VIEW PROFILE

Lois Dorthea Patenge, daughter of Walter Friedrich (1898-1984) and Elvera Dorthea (Raby) (1905-1955) Patenge, was born 24 August 1934, Lansing, Ingham County, Michigan.  Her father, Walter, was the President and General Manager of Wohlert Corporation.  Lois graduated in 1951 from Okemos High School and went on to obtain her elementary school teaching degree from Michigan State University.  The 1951 Tomahawk yearbook said of Lois, "A pleasant girl with a pleasant smile."

After college Lois taught in the Lansing School system before her marriage, 15 June 1957, East Lansing, Ingham County, Michigan, to Richard Arnold Kuntz.  Richard, son of Rev. Werner Henry and Litana Cordelia (Messerli) Kuntz, was born 10 March 1928, Indianapolis, Marion County, Indiana.

On June 15, Lois Patenge, daughter of Walter Patenge of East Lansing, and the late Mrs. Patenge, will become the bride of Richard Kuntz, son of the Rev. and Mrs. Werner Kuntz, of Huntington Woods.  The bride-elect was graduated from Michigan State University and her fiancé was graduated from St. John's College, Winfield, Kan.  He is now studying at Michigan State University.

MR. KUNTZ MARRIES MISS PATENGE

Lois Dorothy Patenge became the bride of Richard Arnold Kuntz at 7 o'clock Saturday in Ascension Lutheran Church in East Lansing.

The bride is the daughter of Walter F. Patenge, of East Lansing, and the late Mrs. Patenge.  The Rev. and Mrs. Werner Kuntz, of Huntington Wods, are the bridegroom's parents.

The bridegroom's father officiated at the double ring ceremony.

The bride was gowned in silk organza over satin with lace.  She carried pink lady roses, feverfew and English ivy.  She wore her mother's pearls which had been a gift from her father on her 30th wedding anniversary.

The bridal attendants wore white organza with yellow cummerbunds.  The bodices were traced with delicate green and yellow flowers.

The girls' picture hats were circled with flowers and they carried the same flowers on fans.

The pair will make their home in East Lansing after a trip to Cape Cod.

Lois died unexpectedly 29 October 1981, Manchester, Washtenaw County, Michigan.  She was 47.  Richard and Lois had one daughter, Kristianne.

KUNTZ, LOIS (PATTENGER)

MANCHESTER, MI

FORMERLY OF EAST LANSING

Age 47, died suddenly Thursday October 29, 1981 at her home.  She was born Aug. 25, 1934 in Lansing.  She attended Trinity Lutheran School, Lansing and Okemos High School and was a charter member of Ascension Lutheran Church, East Lansing.  Mrs. Kuntz graduated from Michigan State University in 1955 and taught in the Lyons Avenue School.  Following her marriage in 1957 to Richard Kuntz, she resided in Manchester, Mich. for 22 years.  She was a member of St. Thomas Lutheran Church of Ann Arbor where she was a choir member and Sunday School teacher.  Mrs. Kuntz was the founder of the Manchester Cooperative Nursery, was a past president of the Michigan Council for Cooperative Nurseries, and past Vice-President of Parent Cooperative Pre-School International; she was chairman and board member of the Black Sheep Repertory Theater of Manchester.  Until her death, she was board member and treasurer of the Manchester Township Library.  In addition to her husband, she is survived by one daughter, Kristianne Kuntz, a senior at the University of Indiana; her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Walter F. Patenge of East Lansing; one brother, Rolland W. Patenge of East Lansing, a niece and nephews.  Funeral services and interment will be Monday, Nov. 2, 1961 at 1 p.m. at St. Thomas Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Paul Puffe officiating.

Editor Note:  Lois' middle name was recorded as both Dorothy and Dorothea.  Note the 17 June 1957 Detroit Free Press announcement of Lois' marriage where her middle name was listed as Dorothy.  Also, 1 November 1981 Lansing State Journal misspelled Patenge as Pattenger.
