Mary Eunice Dodge, daughter of Warren Sanford (1869-1964) and Wealthy Eunice (Crammer) (1871-1912) Dodge, was born 30 April 1897, South Haven, Van Buren County, Michigan.
Mary wed Clare Alfred Rood 20 August 1921, South Haven. Both Mary and Clare listed "teacher" as occupation. Clare, born 13 February 1898, was a World War I veteran. Mary and Clare had 3 children, 2 sons and a daughter. They divorced 12 May 1944, St. Joseph County, Michigan. Clare died 16 August 1984, Fort Wayne, Allen County, Indiana. He was interred Covert Cemetery, Van Buren County.
Mary attended the University of Michigan, received an AB (Bachelor of Arts) degree and furthered her education at Michigan State College with a Master's degree. She was teaching at Haslett High School in 1946.

HONOR TEACHER'S BIRTHDAY
HASLETT, May 5 - The eighth grade students of Haslett rual agricultural school gave their English teacher, Mrs. Mary Rood, a surprise birthday party during class period Wednesday. She received many gifts from the class. Refreshments were served by Mary Jean Traver, Margaret Ebel, Phyllis Elliott, along with their sponsor, Marie Mooar.

OKEMOS TEACHING STAFF COMPLETED
SEVERAL CHANGES IN STAFF FOR 1948-49 ANNOUNCED
Okemos, July 22 - All of the vacancies in the Okemos Consolidated school have been filled according to Edward l. Murdock, superintendent.
Mrs. Mary Rood, East Lansing, will teach English in the high school. Mrs. Rood taught English in Haslett during the last two years.

OKEMOS SENIOR CLASS LEAVES ON VACATION TRIP
OKEMOS, May 15 - Thirty-one seniors of the Okemos school with class counselors, Miss Christena Schram and Mrs. Mary Rood and Supt. Edward Murdock, will leave Monday on their senior trip.
The boat South American will leave for Chicago Monday afternoon with the class on board after they have visited Holland. After a day in Chicago the trip takes them to Mackinac Island and ends at Detroit on Thursday when school buses will meet them for the return to Okemos.

EAST LANSING PAIR MARRIED AT CHAPEL
The marriage of Mrs. Mary D. Rood, 610 N. Hagadorn rd., East Lansing, and Walter H. Sheldon, 4030 Dawn ave., East Lansing, was solemnized in McCune chapel, Peoples church, Friday afternoon.
Rev. Roy Schramm officiated.
The bride was escorted by her son Dr. Robert Rood of Detroit. She wore a royal blue velvet suit and a corsage of pink rosebuds.
The bride's daughter, Miss Mary Jo Rood, and Miss Ruth Sheldon, daughter of the bridegroom, were the bridal attendants. Howard Sheldon stood with his father as best man. The bride's son, David Rood, and the bride-groom's son, Arthur Sheldon, seated the guests.
Nuptial music was presented by Thomas Vasiloff, soloist.
The reception was held in the parlors of the church following the ceremony.
After a wedding trip through northern Michigan, the couple will be at home on Dawn ave.
Special out-of-town guest were Mrs. Rood's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Warren Doge of South Haven.
Mary wed Walter Henry Sheldon 14 August 1953, East Lansing, Ingham County. Walter, after a 35 year career, retired in 1964 as assistant professor in agricultural engineering research at Michigan State University. He also served on the Okemos School Board from 1948-1955. Mary continued her teaching career at Okemos High School into the 1960's. She served as OHS librarian.
Walter, born 6 September 1901, died 21 April 1972. Mary died 16 May 1986 Ingham County. Walter and Mary were interred Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, DeWitt, Clinton County, Michigan.

Dr. John E. Cermak of Okemos Community church officiating. Interment will be held in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens.
