Elsie Marjorie "Marjorie" Eberly (Pope) - Class Of 1926

Elsie Marjorie Marjorie Eberly (Pope)

Elsie Marjorie "Marjorie" Eberly, daughter of Samuel E. (1875-1963) and Emma (Biabach) (1881-1962) Eberly, was born 13 December 1907 Williamston, Ingham County, Michigan.  She graduated in 1926 from Okemos High School and was the class valedictorian..

Marjorie married Claude H. Pope, 4 July 1929, Lansing, Ingham County.

A pretty wedding was solemnized Thursday morning a 11 o'clock at the home of the bride's parents, 903 Baker street, when Miss Marjorie Eberly, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. S. E. Eberly, was united in marriage with Claude Pope, son of Mr. and Mrs. LeRoy Pope of St. Johns.  The Rev. W. Maylan Jones, of Mr. Hope Methodist church, performed the ceremony.  Only immediate relatives attended.

The bride was attractive in a yellow georgette dress.  She carried a bouquet of yellow roses and baby's breath.  There were no attendants.  Following the wedding ceremony a buffet luncheon was served, after which Mr. and Mrs. Pope left for a short wedding trip to northern Michigan.  They will make their home at 1202 1/2 West Hillsdale street.

Claude, born 11 August 1901 St. Johns, Clinton County, Michigan, was a graduate of Michigan State College.  He later became the Chief Engineer at the Board of Water and Light in Lansing, retiring in 1969.  Claude died 18 October 1988, Orange County, North Carolina.

Marjorie died 1 February 2001, Chatham County, North Carolina.  Claude and Marjorie were interred Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, DeWitt, Clinton County, Michigan.
