Velma Emma Eberly (Hahn) - Class Of 1926

Velma Emma Eberly (Hahn)

Velma Emma Eberly, daughter of Samuel E. (1875-1963) and Emma (Biabach) (1881-1962) Eberly, was born 1 August 1906 Williamston, Ingham County, Michigan.  She graduated in 1926 from Okemos High School.

Velma married Arthur E. Kuerbitz, 28 November 1929, Lansing, Ingham County.

A quiet wedding was solemnized Thursday when Miss Velma Eberly, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. S. E. Eberly and Arthur Kuerbitz, son of Mr. and Mrs. Herman Kuerbitz of Bay City, were united in marriage at the home of the bride's parents, 903 Baker street.  Rev. F. Krauss performed the ceremony.

The bride wore an attractive dark blue and coral crepe dress, while her attendant, Miss Fern Pope, was attired in a brown crepe model trimmed in the same shade of coral.  Clarence Kuerbitz of Bay City attended the bridegroom.

Dinner was served following the ceremony after which the couple left for a short wedding trip.  Upon their return Mr. and Mrs. Kuerbitz will be at home at 1930 Clifton avenue.

Arthur, born 11 February 1905 Bay City, Bay County, Michigan, rose to be foreman at Oldsmobile in Lansing,  He died 22 May 1961.  Velma married Irwin Hahn.  Velma died 27 May 1994 Lansing.  Arthur and Velma were interred together in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, DeWitt, Clinton County, Michigan.

Velma Eberly Kuerbitz Hahn

Age 87, died May 27, 1994.  Born August 2, 1906 in Williamston.  Velma was very devoted to her church and Lord.  Together with her husband, Arthur, she was a charter member of Christ Lutheran Church in Lansing, where she served in the Altar Guild and Dorcas Guild for many years.  The time of her passing, she was a member of St. Matthew Lutheran Church in Holt.  Velma ("Ted" to her family and friends) grew up on a farm in Coleman.  She graduated from Okemos High School in 1926, and St. Lawrence Hospital School of Nursing in 1929 with an R.N. degree, one of six who finished in a class of 25.  One of the original nurses with the Greater Lansing visiting Nurses Association, she was also an industrial nurse at Atlas Drop Forge, and an assessment nurse at the Tri-County Office on Aging among her many nursing positions.  She retired from active nursing in 1979 and remained a committed volunteer.  A strong leader in family, community, and church, Velma was a devoted and disciplined role model to all around her.  She was an inspiring example of determination and hard work, and she will be greatly missed by all those she loved and served.  She was preceded in death by her husbands, Arthur E. Kuerbitz and Irwin Hahn; sisters, Vera and Mabel; brothers, Sam, Hilton and Robert, parents, Samuel and Emma Eberly.  Surviving are 1 daughter, Ann (Roy) Cenich and Doris (Paul) Kitchet; 1 son, David (Gina) Kuerbitz; 13 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren; 1 brother, Russell; and 1 sister, Marjorie.  Funeral services will be held Tuesday May 31 at 10 a.m. in Christ Lutheran Church, 122 S. Pennsylvania, with the Rev. David Thiele and Stan Woell officiating.  Interment in Chapel Hill memorial Gardens.
