Moneta E. Wilkins (Ferris)

Moneta E. Wilkins, daughter of Clair Elden (1878-1943) and Edna (McClure) (1886-1923) Wilkins, was born 22 January 1907 Alaiedon Township, Ingham County, Michigan.  She graduated in 1926 from Okemos High School.

Moneta graduated from Michigan State Normal College, now known as Eastern Michigan University, with a teaching degree.  She married 24 December 1932, Detroit, Wayne County, Michigan, Irett Francis Ferris.  Irett too was a school teacher.  The couple had 3 sons.

Irett, born 18 December 1901, died 2 August 1983, Detroit.  Moneta died 5 April 2000, Maple City, Leelanau County, Michigan.  Irett and Moneta were interred Grand Lawn Cemetery, Detroit.

FERRIS, MONETA W., Age 93, of Traverse City area and formerly of the Detroit area, died Wednesday, April 5, 2000 at Maple Valley Nursing Home in Maple City, Michigan. Born January 22, 1907 in Okemos, she was the daughter of Clair and Edna (McClure) Wilkins. On December 24, 1932, in Detroit she married Trett F. Ferris, who preceded her in death. Moneta lived in the Traverse City area for 12 years, coming from Detroit and Okemos. She was a member of Central United Methodist Church in Detroit and an Art teacher for the Detroit Public Schools. Moneta enjoyed painting. She is survived by two sons, Robert (Lynn) Ferris of Traverse City and John (Deborah) Ferris of Detroit; 6 grandchildren, Stacie Georg of Frisco, Colo., Shellie (Rob) Tryon of Maple Grove, Minn., Wendie (Lance) Keiser and Amy Ferris, both of Denver, Sonya (Paul) Ferris-Keiser of Hazel Park, Jeremy Ferris of Dixboro; four great-grandchildren, Courtney Georg of Celina, Ohio, Tara and Taylor Tryon of Maple Grove, Minn. and Mackenzie Keiser of Denver. She was also preceded in death by her parents; and a son, James Ferris. Cremation has taken place and Memorial Services will be held Sunday, April 30 at 2pm at the Dixboro United Methodist Church in Dixboro. Burial will be in Grandlawn Cemetery in Detroit.
