Merrill Albert Proctor - Class Of 1911

Merrill Albert Proctor, son of Vernal Alonzo (1869-1945) and Minnie L. (Case) (1875-1960) Proctor, was born 24 February 1894, Meridian Township, Ingham County, Michigan.  He graduated in 1911 from Okemos High School.  Merrill registered for the World War I Draft 5 June 1917, Ingham County.  He was employed as a farm laborer on his father's farm.  Merrill was described as single, of medium height and weight with blue eyes and brown hair.

Merrill married 17 December 1921, Williamston, Ingham County, Miss Iva Irene Carn.  Their marriage license application listed Merrill employed as a salesman and Iva employed as a stenographer.

Miss Anna Darrow entertained at a miscellaneous shower Friday afternoon, in honor of Iva Carn of Okemos.  Miss Carn, who is a former Mason resident, will marry Merle Procter of East Lansing the latter part of this month.  Students of the Acme Business college of Lansing honored Miss Carn with a shower held Monday evening at the home of Isabel Miller of East Lansing.

The couple raised 2 daughters during their 55 years of marriage.  Merrill farmed all his life.

M.A. Proctor of East Lansing caught a 33-inch, 11 1/2 pound walleye pike near his cottage on Big Lincoln Lake in Kent County.  Proctor said the fish was 30 to 40 feet deep when it hit his shiner minnow.

Mr. and Mrs. M.A. Proctor, 939 Ann, East Lansing, will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary Sunday at the home of their son-in-law and daughter Mr. and Mrs. Richard Wheeler, 2203 Butternut, Okemos.

The honorees' daughter, Mrs. Jeanette Wooton, is also hosting the family gathering.

The Proctors were married Dec. 17, 1921 in Williamston.  She is the former Iva Carn.  They have resided at their present address for 22 years.  Proctor is a retired farmer.

They have seven grandchildren.

Merrill died 23 December 1976, Lansing, Ingham County.  Iva, born 18 September 1902 Mason, Ingham County, died 1 April 1984, East Lansing, Ingham County.  Merrill and Iva were interred Glendale Cemetery, Okemos.

PROCTOR, MERRILL A.

(FORMERLY OF EAST LANSING)

Age 82.  Died Dec. 23 at a local hospital.  Born Feb. 24, 1894 in Okemos.  Mr. Proctor was a life long resident of East Lansing and Okemos and was a 1916 graduate of M.A.C.  He retired in 1943 as a farmer in Meridian Township.  Mr. Proctor was the grandson of the pioneer family of Alonzo Proctor who settled in Meridian Township in 1847.  Surviving are: his wife, Iva I.; 2 daughters, Mrs. Richard D. (Barbara) Wheeler of Okemos and Mrs. John (Jeannette) Rose of Haslett; 7 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren; a sister, Mrs. Bernice Smith of East Lansing.  Funeral services will be held Friday at 2:30 at the Gorsline-Runciman East Chapel, East Lansing with Rev. Charles F. Goudey officiating.  Interment Glendale Cemetery.
