William Franklin "Frank" Coleman - Class Of 1928 VIEW PROFILE

William Franklin Frank Coleman

William Frank "Frank" Coleman, son of Arthur Leroy "Roy" (1879-1948) and Bertha Melvina (Smith) (1890-?) Coleman, was born 21 June 1909, Ingham County, Michigan.  He graduated in 1928 from Okemos High School where he had participated in track.  Frank at the 1928 State Athletic Meet, Michigan State College, won the gold medal in 4:40 track, a bronze medal for 4th place in shot put and was also a member of the relay team which placed 4th, giving him another bronze.

Frank married Rhea Elaine Olson, 9 August 1935, Traverse City, Grand Traverse County, Michigan.  The couple celebrated 38 years of marriage before Frank's untimely death due to a heart attack.  Frank was employed for many years in security at the Fisher Body Plant in Lansing.  He and Rhea, after retirement, moved to Traverse City.  He died suddenly 13 July 1973.

Rhea, born 11 November 1915, Grand Traverse County, died 4 November 1992, Montcalm County, Michigan.  Frank and Rhea were interred Oakwood Cemetery, Traverse City.

COLEMAN - Frank W. Coleman, 64, of R. 4. Traverse City, passed away suddenly yesterday from an apparent heart attack while returning from a fishing trip.  Surviving are his wife, the former Rhea Olson whom he married in Traverse City Aug. 9, 1935; a son Jerry of Crystal, Mich.; two grandchildren; and two brothers, Richard of Chesaning, Mich. and Vern of Eastern, Michigan.  Mr. Coleman was born in Ingham County June 21, 1909 and was employed by the Plant Protection Division at Fisher Body Co. in Lansing.  He was a member of Lodge No. 33, F and AM, Lansing.  Following retirement in 1971 Mr. Coleman moved to this area where he was known as an ardent fisherman.  Funeral services will be Monday at 3:30 at the Hibbard Funeral Home in Traverse City, with pastor Ronald Horn of the Forest Lake Chapel officiating.  Interment will be made in Oakwood Cemetery.
