Helen Catherine Arend, daughter of Benjamin F. (1889-1980) and Leella (Hulett) (1889-1982) Arend, was born 11 June 1917, Ingham County, Michigan.  Helen graduated in 1934 from Okemos High School.  On 27 August 1938, Ingham County, Michigan, Helen married Richard William Leu.  Richard was a 1935 OHS graduate.

Mr. and Mrs. B. F. Arend of Mason, announce the engagement and approaching marriage of their daughter, Helen Catherine, of Lansing and Mason, to Richard W. Leu of Okemos, son of Mrs. Ethel Leu of Okemos.  The wedding will take place August 27 at the home of the bride's parents.

Richard was a WWII Army veteran.

Richard Leu, husband of Mrs. Helen Arend Leu, is home on furlough after being at Camp Callan and in training in North Carolina.  He is being transferred to Texas as a radio technician.  His wife and two young sons will live now at their new home on the Ben Arend farm having sold their home on the Okemos-Holt roads corner.

Richard Leu returned home Sunday, having received his discharge from the army.  He left Japan the last of January.  His wife and three sons have been staying at Mrs. Ethel Leu's since the birth of the youngest son January 21.

Helen and Richard lived for many years in the Mason, Ingham County, area.  Later they moved to LaGrange, LaGrange County, Indiana where Richard, born 10 December 1916, died 10 July 1981.  Helen died 10 April 2007, LaGrange County, Indiana.  They were interred Greenwood Cemetery, LaGrange.
