Frederick Joseph "Joe" Fillwock, son of William Carl (1896-1975) and Inez Maude (Jansen) (1899-1984) Fillwock, was born 9 May 1928, Missaukee County, Michigan. In high school he was called "Joe" but in later life he was called "Fred." Joe graduated in 1946 from Okemos High School.
Joe married Hazel Marie Turner and they celebrated 2 sons and several decades of marriage together. In 1983 Joe was honored by the Lansing City Council with a Citizen Letter of Commendation for his part, along with 6 other men, in saving the life of David Gruber, 27 October 1983. Mr. Gruber became trapped in a pit at Biochot Concrete, 1800 N. Turner Street, Lansing.
Joe died 6 September 2004, Lansing, Ingham County, Michigan. Hazel, born 27 March 1922, Claiborne County, Tennessee, died 16 April 2012, Lansing. They were interred within the same cemetery as Joe's parents, East Lawn Memory Gardens, Okemos.

Born May 9, 1928, in Lake City; died September 6, 2004, at the age of 76. Mr. Fillwock was preceded in death by his parents. Surviving are his wife, Hazel; sons, Gene Fillwock and Douglas (Bonnie) Fillwock both of Lansing; special daughter-in-law, Caroline Fillwock of Houghton Lake; 2 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren; 3 brothers and 1 sister. Funeral services will be held Friday, September 10, at 11 a.m. at Capitol City Baptist Church, 5100 W. Willoughby Rd., Holt, with the Rev. Erwin E. Robertson officiating. Interment will follow in East Lawn Memory Gardens, Okemos.
