Robert George King - Class Of 1935

Robert George King

Robert George King, son of Harold George (1894-1964) and Emma (Neumann) (1892-1975), was born 22 October 1918, Lansing, Ingham County, Michigan.  He graduated in 1935 from Okemos High School.  Robert wed Bette Jane Childs 21 September 1940, East Lansing, Ingham County.  Robert listed on the wedding license employment as a factory worker

MISS BETTE CHILDS WEDS ROBERT KING

Miss Bette J. Childs, daughter of Mrs. Nora B. Childs, and Robert G. King, son of Mr. and Mrs. Harold King, were married at 4 o'clock Saturday afternoon by Dr. Martin Luther Fox in the chapel of the Peoples church in East Lansing.

Only members of the family and a few close friends were present for the informal service.  The bride wore a soldier blue dress with bustle pockets, hat of matching velvet, and wine accessories.  Her only attendant, Miss Marguerite Childs, wore wine colored velvet trimmed with lace.  The bridegroom was assisted by James King.

Following the ceremony, guests went on to the Childs' home, 211 South Foster avenue, for a small reception and party.

Robert was a US Army veteran of World War II.

Mrs. Robert King has returned to her home on R. 3 after a visit with her husband in Lebanon, Tenn., where he has been stationed with the army air corps.  Private King is now being transferred to a squadron in Aiken, S.C.

After returning from military service Robert was employed for many years by the Michigan Bell Telephone company.   He was elected in 1965 as president of the Lansing Telephone Employees Credit Union.

KING ELECTED BY CREDIT UNION

Robert G. King was elected president of the Lansing Telephone Employes Credit Union at the organization's 28th annual meeting Monday night at the Reo Clubhouse.

The organization announced that its 1,400 members received a five per cent dividend total of $36,856 and a 25 per cent interest rebate of $16,562.

Robert died 24 October 1979, Lansing.  Bette, born 1919, died 2014.  They were interred Deepdale Memorial Park, Eaton County, Michigan.

Age 61, died Oct. 24, 1979.  Mr. King was born Oct. 22, 1918, in Lansing and had been a lifelong resident of Lansing area.  He was employed with Michigan Bell Telephone for 37 years, was a member of the Bell Telephone Pioneers of Lansing, and was past President of the Lansing Telephone Employees Credit Union.  Surviving is his wife, Betty J., 2 sons, Gary R. and James l. both of Bay Port, MI.; 1 brother James King of Lansing; 4 grandchildren Keri, Bradley, Troy, and Zachary.  Funeral services will be held Sat. 10 a.m. at the Gorsline-Runciman Lansing Chapel with the Rev. Lawrence Sachau of the Trinity United Methodist Church officiating.  Interment will be Deepdale Memorial Park.
