Dale Elwin Wilkins - Class Of 1935

Dale Elwin Wilkins

Dale Elwin Wilkins, son of Irvin A. (1876-1958) and Lotta (Ashburn Hewitt) (1978-1968) Wilkins, was born 18 April 1915, Mason, Ingham County, Michigan.  He graduated in 1935 from Okemos High School.  Dale married Gladys Marie Woodhull 2 March 1940, Lansing, Ingham County.

Shaftsburg Girls Weds Mason Man

Miss Gladys Marie Woodhull, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Dan Woodhull of Shaftsburg, became the bride of Dale E. Wilkins, son of Mr. and Mrs. Orvin (newspaper misspelling) A. Wilkins of Mason, Saturday evening at services performed at the home of her aunt and uncle, Mr. and Mrs. Floyd f. Curtis on North Capitol avenue.

The Rev. Mr. Myron E. Hoyt of Okemos Methodist church read the serice before members of the immediate families and a few close friends.

The bride chose a floor-length gown of light blue crepe for her wedding, and she carried a bouquet of blue iris and pink sweet peas.  Miss Esther Whitmyer of Okemos, her only attendant, wore aqua blue, and her bouquet was of spring flowers in shades of yellow.  Wesley C. Woodhull, brother of the bride acted as groomsman.

Mixed spring flowers and palms decorated the living room and dining room of the Curtis home, and refreshments were served at tables in the dining room.  After a short wedding trip, the bride and groom will make their home near Mason.

Okemos, Jan. 19 - Dale Wilkins, who went to the Mayo clinic last week for diagnosis, underwent a mastoid operation.  Mrs. Wilkins called from the clinic and reported his condition as good immediately following the surgry.  The Wilkins live on the South Okemos road.

Dale was employed at Michigan State University for many years.  He also was a life-time farmer.  During their 55 years of marriage, Dale and Gladys raised 3 children.  Gladys, born 25 June 1916, Shiawassee County, Michigan, died 11 March 1995, Okemos.  Dale died 4 December 1995, Ingham County.  Dale and Gladys were interred East Lawn Memory Gardens, Okemos.

DALE E. WILKINS - WILLIAMSTON

Age 80, died December 4, 1995. Mr. Wilkins was a life long resident of Alaiedon Township and was a Farmer for many years on the family Centennial Farm; he graduated from Okemos High School, retired from Michigan State University as a Building Supervisor in 1978 and was a life member of the Okemos Masonic Lodge and Okemos Community Church. Preceded in death by his wife Gladys. Surviving, a daughter, Leota M. (Gary Sr.) Firestone; two sons, Daniel E. (Nancy) and Michael (Jill) Wilkins; three brothers, George (Dorothy), Glen (Laura) and Rex Wilkins; one sister, Naomi (John) Whitmyer. Funeral services will be held Thursday, December 7, 2 p.m. at the Gorsline-Runciman Co., East Lansing. Interment will follow in East Lawn Memory Gardens.
