Marian Dorothy Smith (Murphy) - Class Of 1935

Marian Dorothy Smith, daughter of Otto L. (1888 Germany-1976) and Martha J. (Jacks) (1888-1973) Smith, was born 18 April 1918, Ingham County, Michigan.  She graduated in 1935 from Okemos High School.  Marian's sister Eleanor was a 1939 alumni of OHS.

Marian attended Michigan State College and there met William J. Murphy.  They were married on 15 September 1945 East Lansing, Ingham County.  William, born 2 September 1917, graduated MSC in 1941 with a degree in Business Administration.  After graduation he began a 40 year career with the Oldsmobile Division of General Motors Corp.  The Murphy's raised two sons during their 48 year marriage.  William died 8 August 1994, Lansing.  Marian died 7 September 1997, Lansing.  They were interred Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens. DeWitt, Clinton County, Michigan.

MARIAN D. MURPHY

LANSING

Age 78, passed away February 7, 1997.  She was born in East Lansing on April 18, 1918 and has been a lifelong resident of the Lansing area.  She was a member of Emanuel First Evangelical Lutheran Church and was active in the Missionary Society having always been faithful in helping and caring for others.  She was preceded in death by her husband, William J. Murphy, Sr. in 1994.  Surviving are 2 sons, William J. Murphy, Jr. and wife, Linda, Robert L. Murphy, all of Lansing; 2 sisters, Eleanor Otis of East Lansing, Helen Raby of Okemos.  Also precious to "Aunt Marian" were her many nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews, and her many good friends.  Religious services will be conducted by Pastors Daniel M. Buske and John F. Vogt of Emanuel First Evangelical Lutheran Church at 10 a.m. Monday, February 10, 1997 in the Estes-Leadley Greater Lansing Chapel, with interment in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens.
