Virginia Irene Johnson (Sullivan)

Virginia Irene Johnson, only child of Ray E. (1889-1954) and Matilda Marie (Tomrell) (1891-1970) Johnson, was born 10 March 1917, Webberville, Ingham County, Michigan.  Virginia graduated valedictorian of her 1934 Okemos High School class.  She furthered her education by graduating from Lansing Business University.

Virginia married Wilbert Harold "Harold" Sullivan 26 April 1941, Lansing, Ingham County.

Mr. and Mrs. Ray E. Johnson of West Saginaw street announce the approaching marriage of their daughter, Virginia, to W. Harold Sullivan of Lansing, son of Mr. and Mrs. Wilbert Sullivan of Roann, Ind.  The wedding will take place this coming Saturday.

JOHNSON-SULLIVAN VOWS SPOKEN HERE

Miss Virginia Johnson, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ray E. Johnson of West Saginaw street, was married to W. Harold Sullivan of Lansing, son of Mr. and Mrs. Wilbert Sullivan of Roann, Ind., at 11 a.m. Saturday in a ceremony performed by the Rev. Mr. E. E. Hoats at Pilgrim Congregational church.

Mr. and Mrs. Richard Leu of Mason attended the bridal couple.  The bride wore a navy and white traveling dress of her wedding and her matron of honor was in a green print redingote.

The bride and groom will make their home after Monday at 718 North Pennsylvania avenue.  Mrs. Sullivan is a graduate of Lansing Business university, and the bridegroom attended both Michigan State college and Manchester college in Indiana.

Harold was drafted into the US Army in 1944.  By 1945 he was fighting in the South Pacific.  Virginia was living at 238 Elvin court, Lansing, home of her parents.

SULLIVAN - Pvt. Wilbert H. Sullivan, husband of Mrs. Virginia Sullivan, 248 Elvin court, has joined an infantry unit of the 32nd division, and is now fighting to liberate Luzon.  Private Sullivan, whose father is a lieutenant in the army, and whose mother, Mrs. Lena Sullivan, lives at Roann, Ind., was inducted into the service in October, 1944.

Harold came home from war only to have Virginia die not long after, 2 February 1946, Lansing.  There were no children.  She was interred Evergreen Cemetery, Lansing, where eventually both her parents were also laid to rest.

Mrs. Virginia Johnson Sullivan, 28, of 248 Elvin court, died at a local hospital Saturday evening.  Born March 10, 1917, in Webberville, she had lived in Lansing for the past 10 years.  She was a member of the First Baptist church and was employed by the Lewis Fuel company as a bookkeeper.  Survivors are the husband, Harold, and her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Ray Johnson.  Funeral services will be held from the Gorsline-Runciman funeral home at 2:30 o'clock Wednesday afternoon.  Rev. Julius Fischbach of the First Baptist church will officiate and interment will be in Evergreen cemetery.

Harold moved back to Indiana and the town of Roann, where his parents lived.  He was employed by Sears Roebuck & Company as a salesman.  On 5 May 1947, Wabash County, Indiana, Harold married Miss Margaret Louise Tholke.  He and Margaret celebrated 47 years of marriage and 2 children together.  Harold died 15 June 1995, Fort Wayne, Allen County, Indiana.  Margaret, born 1920, died in 2016.  Harold and Margaret were interred Falls Cemetery, Wabash, Wabash County.

W. HAROLD SULLIVAN, 75, of Fort Wayne died Monday at home.

The Indianapolis native was a veteran of World War II, retired in 1979 from Fort Wayne Community Schools after 29 years, and was a member of Simpson United Methodist Church and Wayne Lodge 25 F&AM.

Surviving are his wife, Margaret L.; a daughter, Jan Vick of Auburn; a son, Jeff of Knox; a sister, Jean Musselman of Roann; and four grandchildren.

Services are 1 p.m. tomorrow in Klaehn, Fahl & Melton Funeral Home, Winchester Road Chapel, 6424 Winchester Road, where calling is 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. today. Burial will be in Falls Cemetery, Wabash.
