Greda Otis (McFarren) - Class Of 1929

Greda Mildred Otis, daughter of Elmer C. (1886-1962) and Catherine Antoinette (Shattuck) (1883-1968) Otis, was born 14 June 1911, Ingham County, Michigan.  Greda graduated in 1929 from Okemos High School.  While at OHS Greda was a member of the yearbook staff and was on the program committee for the Junior-Senior banquet.

Greda married Arthur John "Art" McFerren 16 April 1933, Williamston, Ingham County.  Art, born 28 December 1910, Bath, Clinton County, was a survivor of the 1927 Bath school explosion.

The McFerren's celebrated 21 years of marriage and 2 daughters.  Greda died 21 October 1954, Lansing, Ingham County.  She was interred Chapel Hill Cemetery, DeWitt, Clinton County, Michigan.

Mrs. Gerta McFerren, 43, N. Okemos rd., Okemos, who died Saturday morning at a local hospital, was born June 14, 1911, in Wheatfield township, Ingham county.  Surviving are her husband, Arthur; two daughters, Phyllis and Diane; her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Otis, Leslie; two sisters, Mrs. Robert Ballard, Mason, and Mrs. Gerald Martin, Onondaga, and a brother, Bernard Otis, Leslie.  Funeral arrangements are being made at Gorsline-Runciman funeral home.

After Greda's untimely death, Art married widow Lucille Elizabeth (McKane) Evert.  Lucille's husband, Arthur Theodore "Ted" Evert, was a 1924 OHS graduate.  Lucille and Art celebrated 39 years together before her death in 1994.  Lucille was interred with Ted, Glendale Cemetery, Okemos.  Art died 4 December 2001 and was interred with Gerda, Chapel Hill Cemetery.
