OKEMOS OUTDOOR SPORTS STARTED

Okemos high school is looking forward with hopes of scoring athletic triumphs during the outdoor season.  The Chiefs will be defending their state Class D and county track championships with a veteran team, aim to make a much better baseball record and Dick Fuller, undefeated in county tennis circles last spring, is back to head up the net forces.

Much of the track strength will be found in Don Kelty, Wayne Parrish, Ted Howard, Fuller and Stanley Rogers.

Ted died 31 January 1940, Lansing.  According to his death certificate he was a patient at the Ingham Sanatorium, Lansing for 637 days.  Ted's obituary stated "illness forced his retirement in his junior year."  Working with a date calculator, Ted must have entered the sanatorium about 4 May 1938.  He had to have become ill in April 1938, the same month as when he participated in a junior play and began track practice.  Ted was so ill he unable to graduate and literally spent the rest of his brief life hospitalized with diagnosed pulmonary tuberculosis.  He was interred Glendale Cemetery, Okemos.
