Maureen McKelvey (Kindergarten Teacher) VIEW PROFILE

Maureen Katherine Nolan McKelvey, former Okemos kindergarten teacher, of Okemos passed away on Saturday May 13th, at the age of 77.

Maureen was born and raised in Farmington. She graduated from University of Detroit with her degree in elementary education and a Master’s Degree from Eastern Michigan University. She worked in the Okemos Public School System for more than 20 years as a kindergarten teacher.

Maureen was an avid gardener, quilter and made amazing homemade jams. Her children and grandchildren gave her great joy.

She and her husband of 54 years, Dan were founding members of Saint Martha’s Parish. Maureen had many lifelong friends and caregivers who made the final days and years of her life special.

Preceding her in death are her husband Daniel, her parents (Gerard and Kay Nolan), and sister-in-law, Linda Nolan.

Maureen is survived by her children Kerry (Karl) Gabrielson; Maura (Carter) McGuire; Daniel Nolan (Autumn) McKelvey; and Molly (David) Buckles; and their children Caitlin and Nolan Gabrielson; Ada McKelvey and Jack Buckles. Maureen also leaves behind her siblings, Sharon (Ron) Sural, John Nolan and Larry Nolan and Laurel Blasi. and in-laws Sue (Dave) Andrews and Chris Simpson. In addition, she leaves behind numerous nieces and nephews, godchildren, and their children.

Visitation 10 AM funeral mass 11 AM at Saint Martha’s Catholic Church in Okemos, Saturday the 20th of May.
