Lynn O. Hensen (née Oberliesen) Okemos Public Schools Kindergarten teacher , age 89, passed away peacefully on June 15, 2025, in East Lansing, Michigan.
Born on October 20, 1935, in Detroit, Michigan, Lynn spent her formative years in Jackson, where she completed high school before pursuing higher education. She earned her undergraduate degree from Central Michigan University and later obtained a Master’s degree from Michigan State University—an academic journey that reflected her lifelong commitment to learning and education.
Lynn dedicated her professional life to teaching young minds. She began her career teaching elementary grades in Clawson and at Lamphere Schools in Madison Heights. Later, she found her calling as a kindergarten teacher with Okemos Public Schools, where she remained until her retirement. Her work left a lasting impact on generations of students and colleagues alike.
On February 2, 1957, while still students at Central Michigan University, Lynn married Richard “Dick” Hensen. Together they built a life centered around family and shared values. Their daughter Debby Glenn resides in Mason, and their son Mark Hensen and his wife Patricia live in Spring Lake. Lynn was also a proud grandmother to Joanna Glenn of Lansing—who is the mother of Lynn’s great-grandson Jae Glenn—and Austin Hensen and his wife Claire of Grand Rapids.
Lynn is also remembered by her sister Joanne Webber and brother-in-law Charles of Minneapolis, Minnesota; nephew Brad Webber and his wife Rachel of Meansville, Georgia; and niece Amy Seiner and her husband Gary of Plymouth, Minnesota.
She was preceded in death by her beloved brother Richard "Rickie" Oberliesen; her father Herman J. Oberliesen; and her mother Mary Eleanor (Lee) Oberliesen.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Fund of Michigan, the Salvation Army of Lansing, or Samaritan’s Purse (P.O. Box 1270 Charlotte, North Carolina 28201-1270), causes that reflect Lynn’s enduring spirit of compassion and service.
May her memory bring comfort to those who knew and loved her. A Visitation will be held on June 27, 2025, from 04:00 PM to 07:00 PM at Gorsline Runciman Funeral Home 1730 E Grand River Ave.
