Tanmayee Yenumula, class of 2011
Given to us for so short a time A soul of such beauty and grace Tanmayee Yenumula was born in Hyderabad, India on September 17, 1994, and passed away in Elk Grove, CA on July 6th 2017. Tanmayee was an exceptional human being and student, who graduated from Okemos High School in Okemos, Michigan in May 2011, at sixteen. She obtained a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, in May 2014 when she was only nineteen. She was a third year medical student at the California Northstate University in Elk Grove, CA.
Tanmayee was not only stellar academically, she embraced with enthusiasm and verve all of the opportunities to lead and to help that came her way. In addition to the many accolades and honors she gained over her short life, she was a class president, president of the surgery colloquium, and vice president of the radiology colloquium at California Northstate College of Medicine and involved in many other leadership opportunities.
She was also a dedicated mentor to younger medical students. She was part of a team that pioneered the training of medical students in the use of ultrasounds and the author of a recent article in Sierra Medical Society’s Medical journal about the experience. She involved in research since she was 15, from basic research all the way to clinical work, worked on so many projects.
She was always called as an exceptional person by everyone that worked with her or came in contact with her. She was a beautiful soul who loved everyone around her dearly. She was a very caring, fun loving girl with full of energy. She was always smiling and spread those smiles across to everyone around her. She treasured her friends, and the experiences she had with them.
Tanmayee is remembered for her vivacity and zest for life by all who knew her. “Tanmayee” means to captivate or hold spellbound, and it was an accurate description of the effect she had on people. Adventurous--climbing half dome with her friends on a whim, she was also so full of joy that she lit up any room that she walked into. Wise beyond her years and unfailingly polite and considerate of others, she was often held up as an ideal for younger siblings, cousins and friends.
She was always eager to help the less fortunate, and to make the world a better place, she was on the cusp of becoming a physician as she had always wanted and aspiring to be an interventional radiologist. An avid tennis player, she loved spicy food, and going snowboarding with her dad. She wanted to travel around the world and had many trips with her family and friends.
She may be taken from us physically with no warning but we know that she is still with us, just beyond the corner and out of sight.
She is mourned in her passing by her parents, Sudha and Panduranga Reddy Yenumula, and brother Rithvik Reddy Yenumula.
