Elizabeth Mable "Lizzie" Boland (or Bolan) was one of 4 Boland siblings who were listed as 1888 students at Okemos Union School. Lizzie, daughter of Patrick (1820-1903) and Bridget (Kanalley) (1845-1917) Boland, was born 11 May 1880, Meridian Township, Ingham County, Michigan, into the large Irish Catholic family. She must have been very bright to be only 8 years old and have completed 8 grades of schooling.

Lizzie married George Philip Stirm in Lansing, 19 October 1899. George, who was employed in the lumber industry for many years, later advanced and became a timber buyer and head of a lumber division for a large Lansing company. He and Lizzie had one child, Donald, and by 1910 the family of 3 were living in a home on Larch Street, Lansing. In 1925 George and Lizzie proudly watched their son Donald graduate from Michigan State College (now Michigan State University).

George, born 11 July 1875, Ohio died 22 January 1935, Lansing, and was interred Mt. Hope Cemetery, Lansing. Lizzie remained a widow, doting on her now married son and his family. She died 25 May 1962 in a local Lansing hospital and too was interred in Mt. Hope Cemetery.
