Kenneth Joseph Hines II, Dr.

Dr. K. Joseph Hines II class of 2000 Born in Lansing, Michigan on June 4, 1982 to Kenneth and Arlena Dudley Hines. He passed away unexpectedly on September 13, 2009, at the age of 27.

Joe attended Michigan Lutheran Seminary, in Saginaw, MI, and graduated Okemos High School, 2000. He graduated from Denison University in Ohio with a BA degree, majoring in Chemistry and minoring in Spanish in 2004. In 2008, Joe graduated from The Ohio State University School of Dentistry where he earned a Doctor of Dental Surgery degree. He completed his general practice residency at New York University, Morristown Memorial Hospital, New Jersey in 2009. Most recently, Joe was practicing general dentistry at Park Dental Service & Associates in Detroit.

Joe was a loving son, brother, grandson, nephew, and friend. Joe was very social and loved being in the company of family and friends. He had a life long love of basketball, the Diaspora of Spanish culture and language, watching movies, and mentoring and volunteering in underserved communities, which included providing free dental services and guidance to minority youth.

Joe was preceded in death by his grandparents, Paul and Mary Hines and Arthur Dudley. He is survived by his grandmother, Lethia Green Dudley, parents, Kenneth and Arlena Dudley Hines, sisters, Kelly Hines and Candace Hines, and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Friends may visit Dr. Hines Friday, September 18, 12- 9 pm, at the Riley Funeral Home, with the family receiving friends from 6 - 8 p.m. Funeral services will be held Saturday, September 19, at 12 p.m. at Emanuel First Evangelical Lutheran Church, 1001 N. Capitol Avenue, Lansing, Michigan. The family will receive friends 1 hour prior to the funeral.

Joseph Hines, II Memorial Scholarship Fund at Denison University or the K. Joseph Hines, II, Emanuel First Lutheran School Scholarship. Messages of condolences may be sent to the funeral home.
