Charles Clyde Briggs, born 15 October 1876, Ingham County, Michigan, was the son of Ebben or Ebenezer Jackson Briggs (1838-1890) and wife, Martha I. Hulett (1839-1918). Clyde, as he was called, was a student in 1888 at the Okemos Union School. Like his father before him, Clyde was a farmer although he worked several different occupations during his lifetime.

On 22 January 1900, Clyde married Grace Alice James. At the time of her marriage Grace was employed as a "factory girl." According to the 1900 US Federal Census, Clyde farmed but also worked, during the following decades, in a factory, then as a janitor in an office building, and too as a janitor for a wholesale plate glass company. Also, according to census Clyde only went to the 8th grade with his education and no further. On his September 1918 World War I Draft Registration, Clyde was physically described as of medium height, slender in build with blue eyes and grey hair. By 1950 Clyde was unable to work but Grace was employed as a hotel chamber maid. She also had been hired previously as a housekeeper for a private family. Clyde and Grace raised two children, a son and daughter.

Charles Clyde Briggs died 22 August 1952, Butterworth Hospital, Grand Rapids, Kent County, Michigan. Grace, born 10 March 1879, Hesperia, Oceana County, Michigan, died 17 January 1960 in Grand Rapids. They were interred Rosedale Memorial Park, Holland, Ottawa County, Michigan.
