Minnie Case was born 1 February 1875, Meridian Township, Ingham County, Michigan. Minnie, daughter of Albert (1818-1891) and Louisa (Seely) (1834-1913) Case, was raised on a small farm with her two brothers, Charles and Fred. The Case family was a blended family. Mr. Case's first wife, with whom he had 7 children, died in 1858. Mr. Case then married Louise Seely in 1861 and they had 3 children, including Minnie. Several of Mr. Case's first wife's children and grandchildren were in and out of the farm household during the decades of the 1860's and 1870's, Minnie the youngest of the whole brood.

Mr. Case died in 1891 and estate records record he had 11 heirs. His 80 acre tract of land within Meridan Township was described as partially improved with buildings in fair condtion. The property was valued at $2,100.00 and was sold for $2,000.00. Eight of the eleven children, from the two marriages, were still living and each living child, in addition to Mrs. Louisa Case, received $186.52 from the entire estate sale. Two grandchildren were also included in the will and received small portions of the total $1,959.37 estate monies.

Minnie was listed among the children in Okemos Union School during the year 1888. Minnie, at age 16, wed school classmate Vernal Alonzo Proctor, 27 January 1891 in Lansing, Ingham County. Minnie's father died in March of that same year. Vernal, born 24 April 1869, Ingham County, too was a Meridian Township farmer.

In October 1920 Minnie and Vernal were caught up in a very sorrowful situation. The Proctors sold farm property to an Earl Abraham Roop and his wife, Jessie. Earl Roop, by fall of 1920 had an unsuccessful crop season and was behind in his land contract payments to the Proctor's. He was described as ineffectual in the running his farm. He was the father of 3 very small children and wife Jessie and baby son had been ill that October. Earl took his two young daughters, Dorothy and Bernice, murdered them and then surrendered himself at the Sheriff's office in Mason several hours after the crime. He told the Sheriff that, "It was going to be a hard winter and the girls were an expense." Roop was deemed insane and spent the next 40 years, until death, at the Ionia State Hospital, Ionia County, Michigan.

The Proctors raised 3 children; Merrill Albert (1894-1976), Bernice B. (1899-1980) and Alice Marie (1897-1948). Sadly, Vernal died, 13 January 1945, Lansing. The Proctors lived for many years on Grove Street in East Lansing, where Minnie continued to abide until her death, 24 March 1960. Minnie and Vernal were interred Glendale Cemetery, Okemos.
