Leora Fitch, daughter of George W. (1839-1910) and Abby J. (Hale) (1849-1900) Fitch, was born 21 July 1873 in Michigan. Leora's dad was a farmer, but his employment seemed to take him from farm to farm in Michigan. Born in Livingston County, by age 30 George Fitch he was working in Lenawee County where he met and married his wife, Abby J. Hale. The couple, who had 2 daughters, Leora and Cora, then seemed to have moved into Ingham County by the late 1880's. By 1900 George and Abby were in Montcalm County where wife, Abby died that same year. George died 1910 in Grand Traverse County; occupation listed as laborer. George and Abby were interred Forest Home Cemetery, Greenville, Montcalm County, Michigan.

Leora, along the travels of family, met and married, 6 October 1891, William Butz in Ionia, Ionia County, Michigan. William was born 12 July 1868 in Germany but had come to the United States around 1871. The young couple had only one child. The unnamed baby died at birth, 27 June 1892, Ionia County.

By 1920 William and Leora were living in Chicago, Cook County, Illinois. William was managing a jewelry store. In 1921 the two of them moved to Los Angeles, Los Angeles County, California but William within 6 months of the move died of a cerebral hemorrhage. Leora was located in the 1920 US Federal Census still living in Los Angeles and employed as a seamstress in a gown shop. She would continue living in the Los Angeles City area for the next nearly 50 years. Leora died 6 December 1971, Los Angeles. She was interred next to William in the Forest Lawn Cemetery, Los Angeles.

According to one census Leora's education went to the 6th grade. She was an enrolled pupil at the Okemos Union School in 1888.
