Elizabeth Catherine Grettenberger was born 22 October 1875, Ingham County, Michigan, to George Jakob (1844-1918) and Katherine Elizabeth (Helwig) (1844-1918) Grettenberger. "Lizzie" and her brother, George William, were students at the Okemos Union School in 1888. Lizzie would complete her formal education at the 8th grade level.

After completing her education at Okemos Union School, Lizzie, who never married, remained home, helping her mother and then, after her mother's death, taking over the roll of running the Grettenberger farm household. She and her brother Edward (1879-1952) lived together on the home farm for decades.

Lizzie was a devoted and many-yeared member of the Okemos Community Church and the Okemos Pioneer Club. She also donated in the 1950's the property site for the construction of a new Okemos Baptist church sanctuary on Marsh Road in Okemos.

Lizzie died 7 June 1956, Okemos. She was interred Riverside Cemetery, Okemos.
