Lisa Repaskey - Class Of 1983 VIEW PROFILE

Dr. Lisa Lynne Repaskey class of 1983

April 6, 1965 - May 27, 2021

Virginia Beach, VA – Dr. Lisa Lynne Repaskey, age 56, passed away May 27, 2021, in her home in Virginia Beach, Va. Lisa was born April 6, 1965, in Lansing, to Thomas and Martha Repaskey. She is survived by a family who will miss her terribly: her parents, her sister Dr. Karen Mishra, brother-in-law Dr. Aneil Mishra, her brother Dr. William Repaskey, sister-in-law Dr. Keqin Repaskey, her brother Dustin Repaskey, four nieces: Margaret Mishra, Madyson Repaskey, Allison Repaskey, Anna Repaskey, and two nephews: John Mishra and Adam Repaskey.

Lisa was the family “Sunshine Girl.” She loved and cherished every single member of her family and was so loved in return. Her beloved canine companion, Kenzie, will reside with Lisa’s parents in Okemos, Michigan.

Lisa graduated from Okemos High School in 1983; she graduated with a B.A. from Albion College, a Master’s degree in education from Bank Street College of Education, and a PhD in education from the University of Miami. She was very proud to be a Miami alum and she enjoyed her many Miami friends and associates.

She inspired others with her perseverance, her tenacity, her kindness, and her unswerving dedication to her goals. She was committed to teaching students of all ages—kindergarten through college. Teaching children to read was Lisa’s priority and passion in life. In earlier years she taught kindergarteners in Oakland, California, and was dedicated to opening up the English language to children from many different ethnic backgrounds. Literacy was always first on her list, whether she was sharing the delights of reading to those kindergarteners or the university students who were preparing to be teachers. Lisa was an assistant professor at Norfolk State University in the college of education, and her students were the teachers of tomorrow.

Lisa had a generous soul. She gave to others and supported them privately. She most recently mentored a young man all through four years of college—helping him with the costs of college textbooks and other needs. She was a loving and generous aunt, having spoiled her nieces and nephews in many ways; they always anticipated gifts of books from Aunt Lisa. She was a quiet and private woman who clearly thought more of others than herself, and she loved with a big heart. While we already miss her smile and her laugh, we are comforted with the knowledge that she is at peace with our Lord.

Lisa will be laid to rest next to her beloved Nanny at a graveside service in Lansing, MI in late July. Memorial contributions in Lisa’s memory may be made to Lansing, MI nonprofit, CarsINC (https://carsinthenameofchrist.blogspot.com) or to Durham, NC nonprofit, Book Harvest (https://bookharvest.org), which provides books to children to ignite their love of reading.
